The CEO of Inclusive Social Welfare Empowerment Foundation, Chief (Mrs.) Pat Eleto has urged the government to be proactive in handling the growing cases of child molestation In Nigeria.
She said this, after one Nurudeen Nasiru, a 20year old sex offender was arraigned at the Ebute Meta Magistrate Court, Lagos for a case of sexual assault on a minor.
The victim, aged 11, reported the case of repeated molestation by the defendant, and the Inclusive Social Welfare Foundation swung into action by following up, to ensure that the defendant is brought to book.
The case which is being handled by Barrister Josephine Odikpo of Odikpo, Okpe and Associates, representing the victim during the trial, is one of the many cases of sexual assaults on young, innocent children especially female minors that fall victim of sexual abuses by adults.
Chief(Mrs.) Eleto said, “the growing rate at which young girls are being raped or taken advantage of, by adults is alarming and the best way to curb this menace is to follow-up on case, and ensure that justice is served and culprits brought to book, to serve as deterrent to others.
I am particularly grateful for the conducts of the Nigerian Police, especially with the professional handing of the investigation by the Panti Police Division, and we are also encouraged by the Court”.
The defendant is at present, remanded at the Panti Police Division.
Chief (Mrs) Eleto whose foundation has brought succour to many through empowerment programmes, and has also assisted victims of sexual and other forms of abuses, however, said members of the public need to report cases of child molestation to the law enforcement agents, while pleading with the government to act promptly and professionally in ensuring that suspects are brought to justice.
