Scores of vehicles were burnt in a multiple accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway early Saturday morning.
The inferno happened at about midnight when a tanker lost control, fell and burst into flames in the middle of the road.
The incident happened just after the Long Bridge where there is both a car park and car sales stand.
Eyewitness reports that many vehicles were razed in the inferno.
The accident has led to motorists stranded in a gridlock on the ever busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and sister agencies worked all night to evacuate the burnt tanker and other wreckages blocking the road.
An official of the FRSC, Kehinde Hamzat issued this statement to assuage the feelings of motorists stranded on the road after the debris was cleared off the road: The Federal Road Safety Corps wishes to inform the general public that there is no need for panic. The crashed vehicles have been successfully removed from the road and all Obstructions cleared. The road has now been opened to use. For road users already on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway or intending users who have not explore alternative roads should please exercise caution and drive safe; avoid excessive speeding, avoid road rage and ultimately, avoid driving against the flow of traffic.
