Victor Malu, ex Army Chief is dead

Lt. General Victor Malu, a former Nigerian Chief of Army Staff who served under President Olusegun Obasanjo, from June 1999 to April 2001, died at the age of 70 in the early hours of Monday.
The late three Star General was a onetime Field Commander of ECOMOG between August 1996 and January 1998 and was the Chairman of the Special Military Tribunal that tried and sentence former Chief of General Staff, Lt. Gen. Oladipo Diya and other military officers to death for an alleged failed coup against the government of late Gen. Sani Abacha in 1998.
Family sources stated that the former military general died of an undisclosed ailment in a hospital in Cairo, Egypt where he had travelled to for normal medical check-up two weeks ago.
Malu was born in January 15, 1947 at Zaki-Biam in Katsina-Ala local government of Benue State, He enrolled at the Nigerian Defense Academy in Kaduna in 1967 as part of the 3rd Regular Course and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1970.
