In Stallion House, Union Bank’s head office located on the Marina, Lagos, she is known as Bisi and she prides herself as the oldest and the most powerful staff of the bank having served the bank for 44 uninterrupted years and officially, she put her age at her late 50s.
On a chance meeting with her, she is quick to regal you with stories of how she joined the then Barclays Bank straight from secondary school at age 15 because she was privileged that her father was a regional manager of the bank in the then Western Region.
Obviously in her 70s, boisterous and cantankerous character, Bisi would want to be respected by all especially the younger generation of female bankers who were her seniors and levels in the management but her undue and petty competitions was raiding off any respect she would have commanded from her female colleagues especially the younger ones.
For the fact that she was almost as old as the bank itself, she is no more in tune with modern banking and management techniques rather, she taps the younger brains and use unconventional tricks to get them to prepare most of her official papers but unknown to her, it was not a secret to her superiors.
Bisi is angry with the system at Union Bank because she is just a unit head in a department whereas she believed she should be in position of an executive director or something close to that and she often grumbles about it.
