Rotary Club of Maryland, Ikeja became the second club to host newly installed District Governor, Rotarian Jide Akeredolu on the 9th of July, 2019.
Rotamary is the second club to be visited by the Rotarian Akeredolu in the new Rotary year. As it is customary of the district’s foremost new generation club, the visiting DG, first assignment was the presentation of Mama Kits for pregnant women at Mende Primary Health Centre after the club’s members had earlier received the DG with a Guard of Honour mounted at the same venue.
The ‘Mama’s kit’ an initiative of Rotary Club of Maryland, according to Rotarian Marizu Chika, while introducing the package, is Rotamary’s modest contributions towards safe delivery by pregnant women in the health centre.
According to Chika, whose classification is in the medical services, Mama’s Kit contains necessary items needed immediately during delivery and with its provision, expectant mothers will need not run around for it at point of need.
In her response, the Matron of the Mende Health Centre, Maryland, Mrs. Ose appreciated the Club for consistently been there for the health centre and the community at all times. Ose thanked the Rotary for providing succour to the health centre especially at difficult times saying the records of the club’s intervention at critical times are well documented in their archives.
The DG, accompanied by boards and members of the club moved to the popular Cane Village and Onigbongbo market where sanitation equipment were distributed to the artisans and market women.
Rotarian Akeredolu’s train thereafter proceeded to the Palace of the Baale of Mende Araromi, Akinola Ajose. At the Baale’s palace, the traditional ruler, shared with the DG and his team projects that are dare to him and areas where he would need the assistance of Rotary.
Baale Ajose had earlier appreciated the club for its consistent and continuous helping hands to his community.
He, therefore, prayed for a successful tenure for officers of the club in the new Rotary year.
Activities for the day was rounded up with a Peace Seminar at the Mende Cane Village with the cane village sellers and also discussed issues of pending projects, which the club has expressed willingness to support.
DG Akeredolu and his host then moved to Rotary Club of Maryland’s fellowship center for its first board of directors’ meeting in the new Rotary year with the DG and his entourage in attendance.
At the board meeting, discussions centred on plans and activities for the new Rotary year. During the fellowship, three new members were inducted into Rotary Club of Maryland by the DG Akeredolu while two women were given micro-credit loans of N100,000 each.
