Reprisal attack as hoodlums burn Sunday Igboho’s house

In what has the colouration of a reprisal attack, a property reportedly owned by Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho was set ablaze early Tuesday morning.

The building is located in Soka area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. Sources said the attackers who came in a hummer bus and entered the compound through the back area.

A statement by the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi said “at about 0620 hrs of today 26/01/2021, a report was received at the Santo Police Station that some unidentified hoodlums came to Sunday Igboho’s house at Soka area of Ibadan in a Hummer bus and Micra ( taxi) firing sporadically, and set the house ablaze.

Sources said the attackers gained access into the compound from the rear wing.

“We have it on good authority that the main target is Igboho’s main home in Ibadan. But it is hard to gain access because of the security there”, the source added.

Sunday Igboho, a notable youth leader and Yoruba nationalist activist has been in the news since he issued a seven-day ultimatum to Fulani herdsmen in Ibarapa local government area of Oyo state.

After the ultimatum elapsed, protesters had stormed a Fulani community in the area, setting houses on fire and vandalising some vehicles.

He accused the Northerners of masterminding abductions and killings in the state.

After the expiration of the deadline, the house, cars of the Seriki Fulani in Igangan, an alleged Principal actor in all the criminal activities that have engulfed the area, were torched.

Igboho denied having a hand in the attack. Today’s inferno at his residence is believed to be a reprisal.
