Former Governor of Oyo State, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, a respected businessman and political figure, was on Friday officially crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
He was crowned at the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area of the state.
The 81-year-old monarch had earlier received the traditional Akoko leaf at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, Ibadan, and was formally presented with the staff and instrument of office by Governor Seyi Makinde at the historic Mapo Hall.
The President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, to attend the coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The President’s arrival, which was met with a rousing reception from a massive crowd of dignitaries and citizens, marks the climax of the week-long series of events celebrating the ascension of the new monarch.
His presence, along with other dignitaries, underscores the national importance of the occasion as Ibadan celebrates the continuity of its revered monarchical institution.
The presentation of staff and instrument of office took place at exactly 3:05 p.m. on Friday during a colourful and historic coronation ceremony held at ancient Mapo Hall, Ibadan.
A-class dignitaries to the colourful event from all over the country were led by the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a long time political ally and friend of the newly crowned monarch.

Makinde’s formal presentation of the staff and certificate of office marks the final step in legitimising Ladoja’s ascension to the throne, symbolising both tradition and continuity in Ibadan’s monarchy.
This coronation is especially notable as it brings a former state governor into a revered royal role, merging political experience with traditional leadership at a time when community influence and governance are increasingly intertwined.
Makinde, while speaking, said, “This is a momentous occasion in the presence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the presence of people, and in the presence of God.
“In exercise of the power conferred on me as the Governor, I hereby present the staff of office to the Oba, His Imperial Majesty, Senator, Governor, Engineer, my Baba, His Imperial Majesty, Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa 1st.
“This is in confirmation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. I am so present.”
