NiMet predicts low rainfall in 2019

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted that most parts of the country will experience low to rainfall season in 2019.

The Agency said this year’s prediction indicates that the country will generally experience late start and early end of rainfall.

NiMet also noted that the below to normal rainfall that is expected does not rule out the possibility of flood and crop loss in some parts of the country.

Speaking during the unveiling of the 2019 Seasonal Rainfall Prediction, the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika said the agricultural yields could increase by 30 per cent if the information in the SRP is taken seriously.

He also said disasters recorded by the country could reduce by 10 per cent if relevant agencies take advantage of the prediction.
