Husband kills lover caught in action with wife on matrimonial bed

The life story of Olakitan Balogun came to a tragic end when he was killed by the husband of his alleged lover, Ajibade Olumuyiwa.

Olumuyiwa had suspected that Balogun was in a relationship with his wife, Titilayo Olayiwola, and reportedly caught them on Sunday, March 17, 2019 in their (the couple’s) room.

The couple lived on Doland Estate, Ajuwon, in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Olumuyiwa was said to have hit Balogun’s head against the wall and the man bled to death.

The PUNCH had reported on Thursday, March 21, 2019 that Olumuyiwa had been arrested by the police.

At the state police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, where he was being held, Olumuyiwa gave his own account of the incident during an interview with our correspondent.

The suspect, who said he did not intend to kill his wife’s lover, explained that he was trying to make a video of his wife and the deceased.

He said a fight broke out while Balogun was struggling to collect the phone he was using for the recording from him.

He stated, “I never had the intention of killing the man my wife was committing adultery with. All I wanted to do was to catch them red-handed and make a video of it, which I intended to send to my wife’s family.

“I did not have any intention to fight. It was the guy that attacked me and during the tussle, I mistakenly pushed him and he hit his head against the wall. I was even the one that took him to the police station. The police asked me to take him to a hospital.

“I did not know my wife had another lover until the security guard in our estate informed me that whenever I was not around, a man came to meet my wife in the house. I asked my wife about it but she denied it.”

Olumuyiwa also denied allegations that he had earlier abandoned his wife, adding that he was performing his role as a husband contrary to his wife’s claims.

“I am a music producer. I have been doing that for about four years. Due to the nature of my work, I sleep over at the studio sometimes when I have a lot of work to do. It is not true that I abandoned her for eight months as was widely reported.

“Although we had some misunderstandings, I did not abandon her. I would always go home to check up on her and my children whenever I had the chance,” he said.

In an interview with Saturday PUNCH, the estate’s security guard, Kazeem Gafari, confirmed that he was the one who told Olumuyiwa about his wife’s alleged adultery.

Gafari said, “When I noticed that a guy used to come and sleep with Olumuyiwa’s wife whenever he was not around, I called Olumuyiwa to inform him about the development.

“He told me to call him when next I saw the man in his house. So, the day the man came in the night, I called him to inform him of Balogun’s arrival.

“I did not see anything wrong in giving him the information. I felt bad when the police came to arrest me. I really regret my action. I want to appeal to the government to assist me. If I come out of this problem, I will never repeat such again.”

Meanwhile, Titilayo denied the allegation that she was in a relationship with Balogun.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, had said that the suspect was arrested at about 1.45am, following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer of the Ajuwon Police Division.
