The Prince Abubakar Audu University, Ayingba, has said that it is still investigating the circumstances that led to the death of a lecturer in the Department of Social Science Education of the institution, Mr Olabode Ibikunle in an hotel in company of a female student.
Ibikunle, reputed as one of the strictest lecturers in the university reportedly died last Thursday while in company of one Miss Glory Ojochegbe, a student in the Department of Social Science Education.
According to sources, Dr. Ibikunle checked into the hotel three days ago with a young woman, said to be a 200-level student it was alleged that the lecturer consumed a significant amount of energy drinks before the incident.
Unfortunately, not long after their encounter began, he collapsed and did not survive. The lady was said to have alerted the hotel’s receptionist, when she noticed the unexpected development.
In the ensuing confusion, the lady and the receptionist were said to have rushed the embattled lecturer to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.
However, the state police command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), William Aya said the lady in the hotel sex drama with the lecturer has been detained in order to establish the real reason behind the incident .
He added that the lady reported the incident to the police station at Anyigba where she was first detained, before she was transfered to Lokoja.
“The lady, Miss Glory Ojochegbe Samuel’s case has been transferred to Lokoja police command. She is already in detention at the state police headquarters in Lokoja. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is already investigating the matter, before the know the next course of action to take,” said Aya.
Meanwhile, the management of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba had expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stressing that it’s a tragic and disturbing occurrence that has understandably generated public concern and interest.
The student is currently in police custody as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. Although she claims not to know what happened, law enforcement is exploring all possible angles.
The management, however, dispelled the rumour doing the round about his death linking it with one Miss Bello Lubabat, urging people to wait for the outcome of the ongoing investigation by the appropriate authorities and avoid jumping into unverified conclusion.
The Registrar of the school, Yahaya Alilu, in a statement on Friday, urged the media and the public to refrain from speculation to avoid jumping into false conclusion.
The statement read, “Prince Abubakar Audu, University, Ayingba expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate passing of Mr Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, a lecturer in the Department of Social Science Education.
“His sudden demise in company of Miss Glory Ojochegbe Samuel (24GE2034) of the same department is a tragic and disturbing occurrence that understandably generated public concern and interest.
“The university wishes to state that the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle is currently under investigation by the appropriate authorities.
“We therefore kindly urge the public and the media to refrain from speculations or drawing premature conclusions until the facts are fully established.
“We are also aware of some unverified reports linking the names of other students including Miss Bello Yahaya Lubabat of the Department of Educational Administration and planning, to the incident.
“The university firmly dissociates Miss Bello and other students from the matter and cautions against the spread of unfounded information that may harm the reputation of innocent persons.
“Prince Abubakar Audu University remains committed to upholding the value of truth, fairness and justice , and we respectfully appeal for restraint and responsible reportage as investigation continues.”
