A DIVISIONAL Police Officer (DPO) on Monday beat a female traffic warden who was once recommended for honour by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Obasanjo had not long ago during the familiarization visit of the state Police Commissioner, Abdulmajid Ali, recommended the traffic officer for award after the ex-president observed her due diligence to duty.
The DPO, Patrick Onwuwho, who was in mufti, descended on the traffic warden, Anifat Bello, for halting his car at a traffic stop at the NNPC Junction in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Apparently displeased with the sudden stoppage of his movement, the angry police officer stormed out of his car and rained blows on the hapless woman as motorists and commuters watch helplessly the development with shock.
After beating the traffic warden to his satisfaction, the DPO went back to his car and drove off, as the victim and her fellow colleagues began to lament the situation.
While reacting to the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said that the police commissioner, on hearing the news, expressed displeasure on the attitude of the DPO.
According to Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, the commissioner had directed that full investigation be conducted into the matter.
“The woman traffic officer has reported the matter to the CP and he has directed that the matter be thoroughly investigated,” the police image maker said. “The CP was not happy when the woman came with a swollen face.”
He added: “If the allegation is true, am very sure the CP will know what to do departmentally.
