Adewale Seeks Support For Rotary’s Quest For Better Living

The newly installed President of the Rotary Club of Maryland, Ikeja, Rotn. Adewale Sanni, has sought all stakeholders support towards complete eradication of polio in Nigeria and delivering on Rotary International’s mandate to ensure safe delivery and maternal health.

Adewale who spoke during his investiture as the 18th Hope President of the club said there is the need to ensure the polio vaccines get to every part of the country.

Said he, having not recorded any case of poliovirus in the last three years, Nigeria is on the verge of being declared a polio-free country by the World Health Organisation.

Adewale noted that “As a club, we have been in the forefront of championing a polio-free Nigeria campaign, we have to continue our humanitarian service to make sure we don’t have other outbreaks again by maintaining the standard we have laid.

“We have intensified vaccine immunisation, especially the two-step checks. We seek the support of other socially responsible companies to support us in the fight against polio.”

He listed the club’s 2019/2020 projects to include free eye screening, blood pressure, blood sugar and a body mass screening programme, provision of artificial limbs to amputees, among others.

In his response, to guest speaker, Bismack Rewane’s lecture, Rotarian Adewale Sanni, commended the respected financial analyst, for highlighting the essence of what Rotary is all about.

Adewale noted that issues of national economic interest raised by Rewane were the reasons why Rotary was all out to improving on its corporate social responsibility (CSR) to reach the less privileged in the society.

“We know the government cannot do everything, so we as Rotarians are trying as much as possible to support people who are in need, economically disadvantaged that will at least move them from above poverty level in Rotary’s quest to make life worth living.

Earlier in his remarks as the guest speaker at the event, Mr. Rewane who spoke on the subject matter “The Changing Global Economy and Its Impact on Nigeria”, noted that “With trade war going on all over the world, when the elephants are fighting who suffer?

China and America are fighting, Canada and America are fighting, who is the grass here? Nigeria.

“This is important because of the changing global economy architecture that has witnessed a shift from liberal to ill-liberal democracy in developed countries.

“So those of us looking up to the government to manage the economy and liberate us from poverty are wasting our time. The people of Nigeria must organise themselves to work harder than they are working now and to demand their rights from governments.

“If they demand good governance they would get supply of good governance.”
