Breaking: Egbemode to deliver Babatunde Jose Lecture on Media and Society

Renowned journalist and celebrated columnist, Funke Egbemode, will deliver the 2025 edition of the Babatunde Jose Lecture on Media and the Society during the Nigerian of the Year Awards slated for July 10 at the Lagos Collosus.

Egbemode, FNGE, the immediate past Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Osun State, is a widely travelled Nigerian journalist, author and advocate of media excellence with over 30 years of experience. She started her career from the lowest rung of the media ladder as a freelance writer and rose through the ranks to become the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of a national newspaper.

While commenting on her choice by the Editorial Board on National Infinity magazine, organisers of the Nigerian of the Year, to deliver the Babatunde Jose Lecture, Egbemode described as a honour to deliver a lecture in honour of a great man and role model of many top journalists who was revered as doyen of Nigerian journalism in his lifetime.

Egbemode, herself a role model to many female journalists, was nominated by the United States of America to cover its mid-term election in 2006. An award-winning writer, columnist her widely read commentaries on sociopolitical matters and relationships have earned her national recognition.

The Osun State-born and bred journalist also has public service experience, having served as Assistant Press Secretary of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation, NTDC, Special Adviser to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and Member, Board of Directors, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria(FRCN). She is the author of Intimate Affairs and Conversations with my Country.
