Jorge Sampaio, a former Portuguese president who later served in various UN posts, died on Friday at his home in Lisbon, his family told the Lusa news agency. He was 81. “Jorge Sampaio left us today, leaving us with a heritage of not only liberty but also equality,” President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said. Sanwo-Olu signs VAT law in Lagos

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has signed in law a bill empowering the state government to collect Value Added Tax (VAT) in the State. The state commissioner for information and strategy Gbenga Omotosho in a statement said the governor signed the “bill for a law to impose and charge VAT on certain goods and services” in Lagos State. “By this act, the Bill has now become a Law,” Omotosho said.
