Taraba State House of Assembly Speaker, Haruna Tsokwa, is dead.

According to Assembly Spokesman, Tanko Kaura, He died Monday morning at the Federal Medical Centre, Jailingo, the state capital.

Although details and circumstances of his death remains sketchy, as at the time of going to press, Hon. Haruna Tsokwa, had earlier on September 18, 2013, escaped assassination by unknown gunmen.

The incident occurred in a border town called Bade, which is located between Kaduna and Nasarawa States.  The gunmen were said to have arrived in a commando style, according to a source, fired several shots at the convoy but were unsuccessful.

One of Speaker Tsokwa’s guards, a police officer, was however shot.  He was rushed to the hospital after the attackers were overpowered.

Tsokwa was the arrow head of the resistance to Gov. Danfulani Suntai’s bid to resume full executive powers after his return from an American Hospital where he was rushed for treatment after sustaining brain injuries in a plane crash.
