Ogun State House of Assembly has implored Governor Dapo Abiodun to ensure swift enforcement of the State Anti-kidnapping and Land Grabbing Law, 2016, to enhance peace and tranquillity in the state.
The Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, made the appeal on Tuesday while receiving residents of Magboro and Onikogbo communities in Obafemi-Owode and Ado Odo/Ota local government areas of the state, who came to protest the alleged invasion of their communities by suspected land grabbers under the guise of executing court judgment.
Oluomo, who commended the peaceful conduct of the protesters, assured that their case would be passed to the appropriate quarters for immediate action.
He noted that there was a need to follow, to the letter, the implementation of the anti-land grabbing law so as to protect the people from the untoward acts of land-grabbers in the state.
Oluomo added that even in the course of implementation of court judgment, there were laid down rules rather than invasion of privacy.
Earlier in his presentation, the coordinator of the protesters from Obafemi-Owode Local Government development council, Mr Jimi Olusanya, begged the lawmakers for their intervention against the menace of the land grabbers in their areas.
Olusanya added that the families were threatening to resell the lands they had sold to them.
He explained that confusion started in the community last week when they returned from their various offices only to find court processes pasted on their gates while some houses were locked .
He, however, appealed to the state government, through the House of Assembly, to quickly intervene in the matter before the issue got out of hands.
His words, “We are here to report land-grabbing activities in our communities in Magboro. Last week, when we returned from the office, we found court processes posted on our doors while some other houses were locked.
Also in the same protest, the representative of the Atan-Ota communities, Fatai Adekunle, pointed accusing fingers to one Onikogbogbo of Ikogbo, describing him as being too powerful.
