Senate President Bukola Saraki late Wednesday night cried out that he was not part of any plot to take over power from acting president Yemi Osinbajo.
He was reacting to media speculative reports which suggested that some governors had held Osinbajo to ransome and asked him to resign and pave way for Senate President to take over power before the return of President Muhmmadu Buhari.
Buhari is currently in the United Kingdom taking his holiday for about 10 days. He was rumoured three days ago to have died.
Saraki’s statement signed by his adviser Yusuph Olaniyonu noted that he has been inundated with calls from several quarters to clarify his alleged role in the plot.
He said “My first initial reaction was to ignore this empty rumour but after being inundated with calls from across the country and abroad, it became necessary for me to make clarifications from our own end.
“It is a good thing that the Presidency had dismissed the speculation and showed that there is no substance to it. However, i feel it should be known that those behind this baseless, empty and unintelligent mischief are those who do not love this country.”
Saraki said Such suggestions could only bring ill-will, disunity, adding “the country and i therefore advise the sponsors to desist immediately. More importantly, these trouble makers should refrain from linking Senator Saraki’s name to their evil plot.”
