Partial closure as repair work begins on Shagamu Interchange

The Deputy Corridor Commander of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Kehinde Hamzat has disclosed that there will be a partial closure of the Sagamu Interchange as a result of the Christmas day fire incidence involving two fuel-laden tankers under the bridge.

Hamzat made this known in a statement he released on Expressway I-Reporter, a Whatsapp based traffic monitoring platform.

RE: NEED TO CLOSE THE BRIDGE AFTER THE IMPACT OF THE FIRE OUTBREAK THAT AFFECTED THE STRENGTH OF THE BRIDGE

After a thorough examination of the effect of the fire on the Sagamu Interchange, the findings revealed that only a few of the Slabs were affected, hence the recommendation is as stated below:

🔳Closure of the service lane on the Sagamu-Abeokuta on the bridge while the fast lane will be left open to use.

🔳 Demarcation of the 2nd half with concrete barriers by RCC (RCC to move to the site today)

🔳The temporary closure will remain until the affected columns are strengthened.

🔳These recommendations are a fall out of a meeting held at the instance of the Comptroller of Works in Ogun State, Eng Popoola who was represented by Eng Lasisi Adekunle Rafiu. The Engr. gave an assurance that after the closure of half of the lane, the road is safe to use.

🔳The meeting was held in the office of the Unit Commander RS2.25 Sagamu and moderated by the Corridor Commander Lagos-Ibadan-Egbeda, DCC Kehinde G Hamzat
