Oyo govt discovers 16,532 ghost workers

With the intention to ensure the authenticity of the government’s wage bill,the Oyo State Government has therefore ordered the suspension of 16,532 workers accounts in the state civil service after been identified with various irregularities.
Alhaji Ismail Alli, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) who made this known at a news conference in Ibadan added that the 16,532 out of the 100,259 workers in the state were identified by a consultant, Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS) Plc after evaluating its forensic computerised data audit.
Giving the breakdown of the forms of duplicat ion and irregulalarities, he noted employees identified with mismatched names to be 5,795, those with invalid bank account/name details 3,635, bank accounts with no BVN 4,371, bank accounts linked to invalid BVN 186,some that have passed retirement age 1665,multiple salary to single name 40, multiple salary into single account

The SSG said that those identified should face the panel set up by the state adding that their salaries have been suspended pending further investigations.
He added that the ongoing employee verification exercise its not a witch-hunt but part of government’s imperative process of continuous capability audit and improvement of its service delivery
capabilities.
Alli who listed Dr Muyiwa Gbedegesin, Mrs Tolu Shadipe, a representative of the consultancy firm, a union representative and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, who would serve as the secretary noted that the exercise would assist in revealing the true size and profile of the state workforce and consequent implications for government’s monthly obligations.
