Otudeko Takes Dangote To Court Over Apapa Land, Demands N7.9bn Compensation

Aliko-DangoteJustice Okon Abang, of the Federal High Court, Lagos, has adjourned hearing in the suit filed by Chief Oba Otudeko against Alhaji Aliko Dangote and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) over the ownership of a parcel of land located within the Lagos Ports complex till  March 20, for continuation of trial.

Justice Abang adjourned the case after Otudeko, through his counsel, Dr Joseph Nwobike, tendered some documents which were admitted as exhibit by the court.

The two businessmen are both laying claim to the 10.841 square metres  land within the Lagos Ports complex, known as the 5th Apapa Wharf Extension.

Otudeko, chairman of Honeywell Group, had filed the suit in 2006, in which he was claiming $48 million against the defendants as damages for breach of contract.Oba Otudeko(3)_thumb

The documents tendered included  notice of intention to commence suit against NPA, certificate of delivery of parcel addressed to NPA, notice of intention to commence suit against Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE), evidence of delivery of letter of delivery to BPE, NPA letters addressed to Honeywell Group Limited, bundle of digital pictures before taking over of the site and bundle of digital pictures after taking over the site.

Others are NPA’s letter addressed to the Managing Director of Honeywell Group Limited, another NPA’s letter addressed to the project manager, Honeywell Group Limited, copy of NPA official receipt number 0150703 dated January 23,2002, copy of Universal Trust Bank cheque dated June 22, 2000, issued in favour of PZ Industries Plc and many others.
