Opon Imo: Damage It And Get Three Months Jail or N50,000 Fine

Any one who mishandled the Osun Computer Tablet of Knowledge (Opon Imo) now risks three months imprisonment or a fine of N50,000

This was contained in a bill passed by the State House of Assembly aimed at preventing the mishandling of the tablet.

The bill, “Osun State Mishandling of Opon Imo Provisional Bill 2015” was sponsored by the Chief Whip of the house, Mr. Ipoola Binuyo representing Ife North Constituency.

The sponsor of the Opon-Imo provisional bill, Mr. Binuyo said the bill was necessary due to the fact that some students were using the tablet in a way that could be damaging to their future.

Noting that the aim of state government was to improve the knowledge of students true ICT, adding that the bill would prohibit its mishandling, which include the installation of various implicating programmes inimical to their future.

He also said the bill would give parents and teachers the opportunity to monitor the students, both at home and in schools.

The lawmaker representing Irepodun/Orolu constituency, Kamil Oyedele commended the sponsor of the bill, for it would safeguard government assets from being mis-used.

The Speaker, Mr. Najeem Salaam who emphasized the importance of the bill, said, it would be of benefit to everyone.

Meanwhile, the Osun Hotel and Other Tourism Industry Licensing Authority Establishment Bill, and Osun Water Sector Bill were passed sequel to the presentation of reports by the house committees set up to consider them.
