The Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro officially disengaged from office today as Minister of State for Defence. Senator Obanikoro tendered his resignation letter on Monday at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.
Details of his resignation letter exclusively obtained by BREAKING TIMES ascribed the reason for his resignation to the need to liberate the people of Lagos State from political and economic bondage. Paragraph 2 of the letter reads: “My resignation is anchored on my passion for public service and my aspiration to liberate the people of Lagos State from political and economic bondage and usher the state into a new era of transparency and transformational leadership under an elected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government.”
Senator Obanikoro thanked President Jonathan for the opportunity to serve. According to him, “I am grateful to Your Excellency for the confidence reposed in me and for having considered me worthy to serve Nigeria as the Minister of State for Defence at this critical time of our national security concerns. I am deeply humbled.”
Six other Ministers also officially disengaged from the Federal Executive Council today to pursue their aspirations for elective office. They include; Ministers of Information, Labaran Maku; Trade and Industry, Samuel Ortom; State for Education, Nyesom Wike and Labour, Emeka Wogu. Others are Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu and State for Niger Delta, Dairus Ishaku
