No point appealing, I know I won’t get justice says Obaseki, begs Wike, Orbih for PDP ticket

Embattled Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, reacted to his disqualification from contesting the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election saying he already knew he won’t get justice.

Obaseki is accusing his erstwhile political godfather and party’s national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, of playing the alpha and omega in the party.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, the situation is a “mockery of a democratic process.”

He accused Oshiomhole of reducing the APC to a brand of democracy where “illegality and travesty of justice” thrive.

Obaseki said he has decided that it would be an effort in futility to appeal the “unjust outcome” of the screening process, “especially when Comrade Oshiomhole has declared that he is the Supreme Court and ultimate determiner of the fate and future of our great party.”

“We have watched the mockery of the democratic process, which Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, is administering and superintending over in our great party the All Progressives Congress (APC). It has been an unfortunate, disheartening and dreadful spectacle,” the statement said.

“We had initially asserted that going by the open display and enthronement of illegality by one man in the party that comprises several organs and eminent personalities, there is no way that Governor Godwin Obaseki would get a fair assessment in the run-up to the nomination of candidates to fly the flag of the party in the forthcoming Edo gubernatorial election.

“It is unfortunate that this open show of shame, illegality and travesty of justice is the brand of democracy which Comrade Oshiomhole has reduced the APC into. The situation is quite saddening because this is a party supposedly reputed for change, equity and social justice.

“We have therefore decided that it would be an effort in futility to appeal whatever the unjust outcome of the evaluation and screening process of the APC will be, especially when Comrade Oshiomhole has declared that he is the Supreme Court and ultimate determiner of the fate and future of our great party.

Meanwhile, Obaseki, on Thursday night, met with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership in Abuja to negotiate a possible defection and how he can obtain the party’s ticket after it became clear that he would be rejected by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

After Thursday’s meeting in Abuja, Obaseki arrived Benin City to continue the marathon meetings first with a handful of members loyal to the Obaseki/Shaibu Movement in Edo South Senatorial District.

The embattled Governor held a meeting with the leadership of the PDP in Abuja after his session with the APC Screening Committee where he failed to justify the discrepancies spotted in his academic credentials and the heavily criticized gazette he recently signed to prevent the party from conducting its direct primary.

Sources close to the Obaseki camp disclosed that the Edo State Chapter of the PDP has disassociated itself from the reported arranged meetings with national leaders of the opposition party and that Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and former State Chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih vehemently objected to Obaseki’s plot to defect to the party.
