The Role of the Senate
The new bill which the Senate is so eager to pass into Law, is totally questionable, Unconstitutional and clearly not in the interest of the great democratic people of Nigeria.
This bill is coming at a time when the incumbent Senate President is under prosecution for allegedly misrepresenting facts as was stated in his Assets Declaration form at the Code of Conduct Bureau.
I believe like every Nigerian, that the Senate President Senator Bukola Saraki, Senator Dino Melaye, Senator Ali Ndume, and other Senators hurriedly backing this bill, such that it has hurriedly passed the second reading; do not have anything to hide.
I am also of the belief that the Senate, is fully aware of the implication of this bill; meaning Nigerians will be gagged from expressing themselves freely on social media. This bill is a simulacrum of the draconian decrees barring the press during the Ibrahim Babangida Military regime.
This bill is an unnecessary surplusage, anti-Nigerian, and very undemocratic.
The image portrayed publicly by Senator Dino Melaye in Abuja so far, is one which is totally unbecoming and unexpected of a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
We eagerly anticipate Laws to emanate from the Senate, that would improve our decaying health system, our falling educational standards and systems.
We wait for the Senate to make Laws that would help in the complete sanitization of the Niger Delta region, and the improvement of the lives of people of Niger Delta, security of Nigerians generally and total revamping of our Nigerian economy.
Should Nigerians insist through a referendum that all Senators must declare annually all their assets publicly?
God bless the special and distinguished people of Nigeria. May God Almighty save the good people of Nigeria from the 109 members of the Senate of our great country
