The Kwara State Government has allayed fears of a recurrence of communal clashes in Ifelodun local government area and other parts of the state.
Government thus urged residents, including corps members to go about their normal activities.
It added that peace had returned to the two communities initially affected by the local clashes few weeks ago.
According to the information, “Please ignore rumours of an on-going communal clash in Ifelodun LG Area of Kwara State,” read an official statement.
Government said following its intervention, peace had returned to the two communities initially affected by the localised clashes weeks ago.
“Corps members posted communities in Ifelodun LG and all parts of Kwara State are therefore assured of their safety and are advised to report to places of primary assignment. Kwara State as a whole remains peaceful and calm,” the statement read.
The state government also assured it would continue to ensure the safety of lives and property of the people of the state.
Recently, the state government imposed a 24-hour curfew on Share-Tsaragi communities following a communal clash between the two communities, which resulted in the burning of houses and injury to several people.
The curfew was relaxed to allow movement between 09h00 and 15h00 in the two communities following gradual return of normalcy in the area.
The state government has also warned that any individual or group found disrupting public peace and order would be prosecuted in accordance with the laws.
