The political family of Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa may be tearing apart if the current arrogance displayed by some of his appointed officials are not stem in the bud. One of such act of being power drunk was displayed recently during the wedding of Mr. Victor Eb, who is Okowa’s Personal Assistant on Domestic Affairs as well as a nephew to him and Miss Ehiedu Mekwuye, that had the who is who in the state in attendance.
According to a very reliable source who was at the reception venue held in the Dome, Asaba, the former number three man in the state, Rt Hon. Martins Okonta was seated on the eight roll behind the governor, when the Director of Protocol, Mr Ifeanyi Eboigbe went straight to him and pushed him out, with no explanation.
This was an event he was duly invited. The embarrassed former Speaker who is currently the Special Adviser on Legislative Matters to the Governor not wanting to cause a scene quietly left the venue to the surprise of those who witnessed it.
When contacted on phone to confirm the incident, Okonta was reported to have muttered in low tone “such is the irony of life”.
Fact finding confirmed that Okonta who is in his mid fifties was one of the arrow head of Okowa’s campaign during the last general election, and one of the very few top government functionaries who dared the former governor by showing up at Okowa’s December 8th 2015 declaration in Oshimili Arcade.
Other top government functionaries whom we reached out to condemned the action of the Director of Protocol for not having respect for a former speaker and a known supporter of the prosperity agenda.
One of them who spoke on condition of anonymity said “why will the DOP do such an act? What kind of arrogance is that to drag a former Speaker of the state out of a function that has the governor in attendance? I just hope the governor will call him to order.”
The Director of Protocol did not pick nor return his calls, when our reporters reached out to him to hear from him.
