The need to put Ogun State back on the path of development and probity under the Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun administration began has begun with plans by the state government to probe the eight years administration of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun during the week.
The Dr. Dapo Abiodun led administration during the week announced the setting up of a committee to probe the contracts and projects innitiated by Amsoun’s administration.
According to sources at the Oke Mosan Governors Office, the committee is to among other things, identify all outstanding significant construction/projects in the State.
National President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Mr. Adekunle Mokuolu, is to chair the committee.
An inside source confirmed to Global Excellence that the Governor had ordered all the Ministries and parastatals to document including their statements of accounts that would aid in probing the activities of Amosun.
The source further confirmed that Amosun if found guilty by the committee may be either ask to return the funds or be further investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The woes of the suspended 20 Local government and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) continue as the State House of Assembly has vowed to go ahead with the probe of financial mismanagement allegations.
Recall that the 8th Assembly under the leadership of former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Suraj Adekunbi through a resolution suspended the 20 LG and 37 LCDAs Chairmen in the State.
The Assembly also directed that the affected chairmen to hand over the affairs of the Councils to the Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGA) and appear before the Assembly on Friday June 7 for investigation into their alleged financial misappropriation.
The 9th Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo gave the affected Chairmen an ultimatum to 30 copies of their report of stewardship for the last administration from 2016 to 2019 in the various councils and 2017-2019 in LCDAs to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on or before 25th of July, 2019.
The Assembly also noted that the report was expected to x-ray the income and expenditure of the councils as well as achievements and challenges during the period under reference.
