The Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State, has reacted to a viral video in which some undergraduates of the school were locked out for late resumption.
Many social media users had criticised the private university, as the affected students claimed to have slept on the road outside the campus gate.
The ACU Public Relations Officer, Alvan Ewuzie, in a statement on Tuesday, said the varsity could not be held responsible for any student who resumed after the due date.
He noted that the institution placed premium on discipline, adding that the students flouted known rules.
Ewuzie said, “Ajayi Crowther University was on vacation from July to September 23rd (two months and some weeks). The deadline for resumption for the 2019/2020 session was October 5, 2019 and lectures commenced immediately.
“The university management further tolerated late-comers up to a final deadline of October 19 when the gates were shut.
“Students were duly notified that failure to come into the university campus before the deadline would mean that defaulters had voluntarily decided to forfeit the first semester.
“Put succinctly, while the university does not recognise any student who comes after the deadline, the university is not responsible for any resumption defaulters outside the university gates.”
The spokesperson noted that parents had been advised not to allow “such recalcitrant students” to report to school.
