Appeal court affirms ex-Chrisland supervisor’s 60 years’ imprisonment for defiling minor

Adegboyega Adenekan’s effort, to upturn the judgement of a Lagos State Special Offences Court that sentenced him to 60-year jail for defiling a 2-year-old female pupil of Chrisland School, hit the rocks as the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal on Monday affirmed the sentence. Adenekan was convicted of the offence on October 24, 2019, by Justice Sybil Nwaka of the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja. The Federal Government has asked schools in the country to reopen for graduating pupils effective August 4. It also announced that this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination would commence on August 17. An ex-banker, Dauda Lawal, on Saturday appeared before the Justice Ayo Salami-led presidential panel to give evidence against the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu. Godswill Akpabio, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, has released names of members of the National Assembly who were awarded contracts by the Niger Delta Development Commission. The list was contained in a letter Akpabio sent to the National Assembly. The National Youth Council of Nigeria presented the document to the media in Abuja on Sunday.
