The Police in Niger have arrested three suspects for allegedly stealing female panties in Lapai and Gurara local government areas of the state. The N2.2bn fraud trial of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose was stalled on Friday as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission accused the ex-governor of going behind to threaten and compromise one of the prosecution witnesses. The EFCC lawyer, Mr Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), told Justice C.J. Aneke that the anti-graft agency had decided to use another witness instead of the one allegedly compromised by Fayose. Maina arraigned in court, remanded in prison

A Federal High Court, Abuja, has ordered the remand of the embattled former chairman of the Pension Reforms Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, in prison custody. Justice Okon Abang granted the remand order following a request by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after he pleaded not guilty to the 12 counts. The judge consequently adjourned untill October 30 for trial and November 19 for suitability of his application for bail filed before arraignment. Maina is facing charges of money laundering, operating fictitious bank accounts and fraud.

NJC appoint 4 Judges for Supreme Court, others

The National Judicial Council has recommended the appointment of four new Justices for the Supreme Court. They are Justices Adamu Jauro (North-East Zone); Emmanuel A. Agim (South-South Zone); C. Oseji (South-South Zone); and Helen M. Ogunwumiju (South-West Zone). The council at its meetings held on Tuesday and Wednesday also recommended the appointment of four new heads of court, 13 judicial officers for Federal and State High courts and one Kadi for the Sharia Court of Appeal. The NJC also placed eight judges under investigations for various allegations of official misconduct.
